📍Yamunotri temple

Yamunotri, nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarkashi, is the origin of the Yamuna River and the first stop on the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. Revered for its mythological significance and natural beauty, Yamunotri is a journey of faith and mountain adventure. Though the temple itself is accessible only by foot or pony, the trek to Yamunotri is relatively short and offers a peaceful Himalayan experience, with thermal springs, snow-covered peaks, and devotional energy throughout the trail.

🏞️ About the Journey to Yamunotri

The journey to Yamunotri begins from Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun, passing through Barkot and reaching Janki Chatti, the last motorable point. From here, it's a 5 km trek to the Yamunotri Temple, which is located near the actual source of the Yamuna River (Yamunotri Glacier lies about 1 km further up at 4,421 m but is rarely visited due to difficult terrain). The temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, and according to mythology, she is the daughter of Surya Dev (Sun God) and the sister of Yama (God of Death). It is believed that a dip in the Yamuna safeguards against untimely death.
